Evaluation of <scp>multi‐RCM</scp> ensembles for simulating spatiotemporal variability of Asian summer monsoon precipitation in the <scp>CORDEX‐East</scp> Asia Phase 2 domain

Five regional climate models (RCMs)—CCLM, RegCM, HadGEM3-RA, SNURCM and WRF—participating in the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment-East Asia (CORDEX-EA) Phase 2 project are evaluated for their ability to simulate spatiotemporal variability Asian summer precipitation. For this purpose, two dynamical downscaling sets, experiments forced by ERA-Interim reanalysis data (reproduction experiment) historical from three Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 5 (CMIP5) general circulation (GCMs) (historical analysed. The horizontal resolution of downscaled results is 25 km, analysis period 1981 2005 (25 years). RCMs show reasonable performance simulating spatial temporal characteristics precipitation CORDEX-EA domain. To assess patterns precipitation, cyclostationary empirical orthogonal function (CSEOF) used. In first mode representing seasonal variations, model ensemble both reproduction experiment (Rep_ENS) (His_ENS) peak times, location progression monsoons reasonably. Their features greatly influenced moisture flux, indicating that relation between 850 hPa flux depicted well RCM ensembles. second mode, which represents intraseasonal Rep_ENS depicts western North Pacific monsoon break (WNPSM break) phenomenon similar observation. Although His_ENS simulates WNPSM later than observation, it does present variation East region. Based on these results, five capture domain, as added value downscaling.
